Christmas... Already???

Yesterday, at 12:25 PM a radio station in Dallas-Ft. Worth started playing Christmas music.    Yes, you heard right.  November 7.  A gift, they say.  present
Don't get me wrong.  I love Christmas music.  It is my favorite time of year.  I wait all year to get into the spirit.  But, gimme a break!  Two whole weeks before Thanksgiving?  That's like 8 weeks of Christmas music.  The week of Thanksgiving, okay.  But, I can only hear some of them so many times before even I lose my mind.  I think I've become the Grinch.
Every holiday comes earlier every year.  Meaning the retailers get on the band wagon way in advance of the parade.  Halloween goes out the day after Labor Day, if they can hold themselves back that long.  I was seeing Christmas stuff up in September, I swear.  Oh, and I had to go to the Mall on Sunday - November 4, mind you, and there sat SANTA!  What happened to the anticipation and excitement of seeing Santa Claus arrive at the mall?  It used to happen the Friday after Thanksgiving.  Now?  Two months before Christmas.  No wonder retail sales are slipping.  They are bombarding us before we're ready and then we are sick to death when we should be pumped up and ready to spend our hard earned pennies.

I'm not normally Bah Humbug, but it just struck me as ridiculous after seeing Santa on Sunday and then 24/7 Christmas music starting during the first full week of November.  Nothing's sacred anymore.

  1. It takes some of the joy away--when it's all the time.

  2. 85 degree temperatures outside don't inspire a Christmasy mood either.
